Meridian is an exhibition showcasing the ingenuity and intelligence of the final year mechanical and mechatronics engineering students at the University of Melbourne. The event exhibits advance research and project work undertaken by the students in collaboration with industry and academic staff at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The event also bridges the gap between the industries and university, maximising the sponsors’ exposure to Australia’s finest students and increasing students’ marketability. Meridian exhibition is also an event to encourage engineering to secondary school students by providing presentations, laboratory tours and design competitions. Meridian '07 will be held on the 10th October 2007 and the venue will be at Wilson Hall in the University of Melbourne.

Moreover, the year 2007 has been designated to be ‘The Year of Women in Engineering’ by Engineers Australia. Therefore, Meridian ’07 will encourage secondary schools student, especially female students, to do an engineering course. Meridian ’07 wants to pass the message that women can offer skills in communication and valuable perspectives on the broader implications of engineering projects. In addition, by incorporating ‘Women in Engineering’ as part of Meridian ’07 theme, Meridian ’07 hopes to increase the awareness among the profession and wider community, including industries and public, of the diversity, competence, influence and passion of women engineers.

"We were impressed at the professional standard of the event and the way it was organized. The students were a pleasure to talk to and the quality of their projects was exceptionally high." |

“The exhibition was outstanding and the boys certainly gained a broad aspect of the large possibilities in engineering outside of the typical. Some of the lecturers were fantastic in their effort to excite the potential students and the guides were informative” |

"Meridian 2006 produced some fabolous displays, and conveyed the students' commitment to a very worthwhile to set of projects. Through it students exhibited a real sense of passion and delight in their work, despite the exhaustion of a very long day. My only regret today was that there was not enough time to cover the whole exhibition. It was encouraging to see the level of enthusiasm and sense of achievement that emanated from this group of near-graduate engineers, about to be inflicted on the unsuspecting public" |
