Why Major Project and Professional Practice?
The Major Project and Professional Practice is an essential and capstone year long project. It is regarded as utilising real world, authentic activities and challenging in a supportive and collaborative environment. Students are encouraged to develop their personal strengths, team work skills, project management skills, and apply it to the real world. They are also to be prepared to become a successful employee on their future careers.
Major project conducts the investigations, analysis and prepare the reports of the specific topic in advanced engineering design or research. The project can be associated with practical solutions to complex technical problems or exploring a new knowledge in mechanical science industry. On the other hand, Professional Practice will encourage students to build their appreciation of the role of technology in society, respecting fellow workers, society and environment.
There are three types of projects that students can choose as their major project, namely:
- Academic based Project
Teams of students choose the topic offered by the Department
- Company based Project
Teams of students work as consultant providing a professional service to third client party
- Student generated Project
Teams of students develop a project specification which has been approved by the coordinating staff.
